Copyright, Privacy & AI Policy
Your stories are yours — always. Scriptory (beta) exists to give writers and creators a place to share their work safely. Below is an explanation of how your content is protected, and how we handle data.
Please note that Scriptory is built for aspiring and emerging creators who choose to share their work as part of their creative growth. It may not be appropriate for professionals working under contract, NDA, or studio obligations that restrict public sharing.
1. Copyright & Ownership
Every story, worldboard, image, character, and creative work you upload to Scriptory (beta) remains 100% your property. We do not claim ownership, sell, redistribute, or license your work.
By uploading, you grant Scriptory a limited, non-exclusive license to display your work on the platform. This is only for showing it inside Scriptory. It is not used for:
- marketing
- AI training
- third-party distribution
- external archiving
You may make a story public or private at any time, and you may delete it whenever you want. Once deleted, it disappears from the platform. Temporary system backups may retain encrypted copies for a short time, but never for training, analysis, or any purpose other than security.
Creators are solely responsible for ensuring they have the right to upload and share any content they post on Scriptory.
Appropriate Use & What Not to Upload
Scriptory is designed for original and creator-owned work shared voluntarily by its authors as creative showcases, samples, or exploratory projects.
You should not upload content that you do not have the legal right to share, including:
- Scripts written under NDA or employment contracts
- Optioned, commissioned, or studio-owned material
- Confidential production documents or internal drafts
- Work subject to third-party exclusivity agreements
Scriptory is not a submission service, contest platform, or industry pipeline. Sharing work on Scriptory does not constitute professional submission, representation, or endorsement.
2. Fan Content, Images & Trademarks
Worldboards are a huge part of Scriptory. But users are responsible for ensuring that anything they upload (e.g., cast photos, locations, props, images, logos) does not violate copyright or trademark laws.
We support fair use, commentary, and creative reference, but we cannot host:
- full movie stills or posters you don’t own
- studio logos
- celebrity headshots used without permission
If a rights holder contacts us, we remove the content quickly according to our DMCA policy.
3. Privacy & Security
Scriptory uses Supabase for secure authentication and storage. Private stories are protected by Row-Level Security, meaning only you can access them.
We collect the minimum information required to run your account (email, username, encrypted password). We do not sell, rent, or share personal data.
If you delete your account, your stories, comments, saves, likes, and profile are removed from the live database. Encrypted backup copies may temporarily persist but are never reused or mined.
Third-Party Embeds
When you interact with Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud, or other embeds, those platforms may collect data under their own privacy policies. Scriptory does not control or store this information.
4. AI, Automation & Data Protection
With the rapid growth of AI tools, many creators have raised concerns about data scraping, AI training, and how creative platforms protect user work. We share these concerns and aim to be transparent about what Scriptory does, what we actively work to prevent, and the limits of what any online platform can realistically control.
Scriptory does not use AI to generate content, analyze stories, or train models. Your work is never fed into machine learning systems by Scriptory, and we do not sell, license, or provide user content for AI training purposes.
We implement technical measures intended to discourage large-scale, abusive data scraping, such as rate limiting and monitoring for unusual access patterns. We do not authorize Scriptory to be used as a dataset for AI training, commercial harvesting, or bulk content extraction.
However, it is an unfortunate reality that anything made publicly available online may be accessed or copied in ways beyond its original intent. Many AI data collection methods rely on the same mechanisms as legitimate uses of the web, such as search indexing or standard page requests. Attempting to block all scraping entirely would also block legitimate users and services.
Because of this, Scriptory focuses on reducing abusive behavior rather than policing creative process. We do not attempt to determine whether a work was created using AI tools. Creators are responsible for ensuring their uploads comply with these policies, and we rely on good-faith participation by our community.
- We do not train AI models on user content.
- We do not authorize or permit third-party scraping for AI training or dataset creation.
- We take reasonable technical steps to limit automated scraping where possible.
- You may not use Scriptory to scrape, copy, or download content to train AI models or build datasets.
Creators who wish to further limit automated access may choose to keep their work private or visible only to logged-in users. While no setting can guarantee complete protection, restricted visibility can help reduce large-scale automated collection.
As technology and norms evolve, these policies may be revisited. Any significant changes will be communicated clearly. Our priority remains protecting creators, respecting ownership, and maintaining transparency.
